Irish Georgian Society Visits Northern Ireland

August 8-16, 2016
Visit N. Ireland's finest gardens and Georgian mansions.

Dear Fellow Irish Enthusiasts,

This summer we have the opportunity to visit some of Northern Ireland’s finest gardens and Georgian mansions accompanied by Robert O’Byrne. A writer specializing in the fine and decorative arts, Robert is the author of more than a dozen books, among the latest being Luggala Days: The Story of a Guinness House (Cico Books). Much in demand as a public speaker, he writes a monthly column for Apollo magazine and also contributes to each issue of the quarterly Irish Arts Review. As well as being a trustee of the Apollo Foundation and a former trustee of the Alfred Beit Foundation, you may know Robert as Vice-President of the Irish Georgian Society. Founded in 1958 the society's vision is the preservation and promotion of Ireland’s architectural heritage and decorative arts. We are delighted to be associated with this worthwhile organization during our trip and thanks to Robert we will call into the homes and gardens of his friends and those he has written about. You can find Robert and learn much more about Ireland's heritage at http://theirishaesthete.com .

Our adventure with Robert will begin in the environs of Belfast where we’ll visit magnificent private homes and gardens. We can look forward to special lunches, cocktails and dinners with some of our hosts in their historic properties not usually open to the public. From Belfast we’ll make a big swing enroute to Enniskillen to see many of the area’s famous sights such as the Antrim Coast, the Giants’ Causeway and the town of Derry. Upon arriving in Enniskillen, our garden and home visits continue in County Fermanagh. http://www.discovernorthernireland.com
We’ll bid farewell to Robert Saturday afternoon, leaving Sunday to tour the Sligo area enroute to Ashford Castle and the Connemara Region. Ashford has just been thoroughly renovated and its grand elegance endures – Waterford Crystal, regal fabrics, dramatic artwork and high-end furnishings.
